11km indoors

Oh my...I feel like I lost some IQ points running step after step on the treadmill this morning. The last 1.5 km was just a sheer focus on the fact that it was almost over.
Our run club had to cancel - it is early enough in training that it wouldn't really hurt that we could not get outside for a run. From where we start out from, there was no route we could find that would have made it safe for everyone.
Originally, I thought that it would not be bad being at the gym for over an hr on a treadmill....
Thought: I can watch some TV
Reality: the following shows were on: news, Celebrity Rehab, that Gene Simmons reality show and Saved by the Bell...
Thought: I can run in shorts and not have 3+ layers on.
Reality: Oh my are my legs white....and I didn't shave them yesterday...yikes
Thought: I can grab a shower at the gym and get a bit of shopping down.
Reality: THERE WAS NO HOT WATER AT THE GYM.....I know the cold is good for your muscles after a run but not when you are trying to get clean.

All in all, it was a good run. I am thankful to now realize that my long runs outside, no matter how hard they may seem, really are better outside.

And Mother Nature - thanks but I have had enought now....

Christmas Run and .....Snow-mageddon??

Last night's Griswald Run at the Burlington Running Room was lots of fun. We lasted 3 steps running with our reindeer antlers before they annoyed us so off they went and no pics of us in them. Here we are in our reindeer glory after our Christmas party last year:

Apparently, the heavens will collide over the next few days and put forth: "Snow-mageddon".
According to 680 News:

"Environment Canada said southern Ontario is on the brink of a "snow-mageddon" -- a term used by the government agency to describe what's coming the region's way. Two more significant winter storms are about to hit the region, one on Friday and another on Sunday. Some areas may receive a combined total of about 50 centimetres of snow. Dave Phillips, a senior climatologist with Environment Canada, told 680News that in this case the term "snow-mageddon" is no exaggeration, and added that back-to-back-to-back snow storms can wreak havoc."

My thoughts for tomorrow focus on two things:
1. that everyone I care about is safe;
2. that I hope that the snow will start late enough so that I can make it into the gym in order to get my run in, get my coffee and work from home for the day.

Priorities, priorities....

-14c with the wind chill....

..... and what a wind chill there was. Our LSD yesterday was brutal. We actually were calling it cross training as the last half was right into the wind so we all had a serious quad workout. At one point, I actually thought I was standing still. But: "Go Me" I didn't wuss out, put on my big girl panties, got it done and felt great at the end. My legs as usual were cold but there is no way I am wearing two layers on my legs just yet. My legs were really tired last night because of the run as well as from Saturday's spin class. Our instructor always follows the same routine of basically interval training - i.e. 5 min routine, a break, 5 min routine etc. Not this time - this time she kept us going for at least 20 min with no breaks. That is fine with me but geez, tell us so can at least prepare for it and not go full out thinking we would be following the same basic routine.
In other news:
-winter tires are finally on my car so I don't feel as stressed about having to drive this wee schnib of a car this winter. My wallet is stressed though. Who knew tires were that expensive...
-running/workouts remain pretty good. I feel like I am falling into a pretty good pattern as far as running goes. LSD on Sundays is going well and I am keeping a good but improving pace. Tuesday and Wednesday tempo runs are 'uncomfortable' but good. My Friday on my own run continues to suck. Don't know if it because I am on my own and on the treadmill or if I am just exhausted by the end of the week. It is basically a slow, never ending plod that borders on junk miles.
- I am slightly more enthusiastic about Christmas. My stress level about the holidays is coming down a bit so the tree might be up tonight.

I am waiting to see how big a bruise I end up with on my backside because of this devil:

It seems to be great fun in our house to race us down the stairs. Last night, I didn't win and landed hard. You would think with all the padding I have it would not have hurt.
You would be wrong.

While that happened, the other devil was lounging away comfortably:

Apparently, the granite gets nice and warm when the dishwasher is on. I don't know who these cats were in another life but they sure did something right to lead the pampered life they do now.

Christmas....feeling it?

I am having a bit of trouble getting into this Christmas thing. Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas but I keep feeling like this impending doom is floating around. My bro lost his job and family members are going through a divorce which is very upsetting. The economy is scary as it let alone when we apparently have two governments at the moment...neither of whom I chose but yet have to pay for? Hmm...
We haven't put our tree up and I really don't know if we will. We aren't having any dinners and don't have any parties planned this year so I feel like it is a bit of a waste. I know that is awful to say and seems lazy but I just don't feel it.
I enjoy seeing all the lights out when we are out running and we did put our mesley lights up but ...
I gotta snap out of it.
