MCM Mama Virtual race and a Sunday Long Run…on Monday

Following Thursday’s track workout from hell courtesy of Coach Satan, my legs were seriously sore…Friday was an off day but I was on vacation and golfed with friends.  Saturday I woke up and yep..legs were still sore.  I did have some incentive for getting our for my tempo run:

MCMmamaBib

“Mama Goes Masters" Virtual Race
When:  August 25th (or whatever date between August 20-25 that works for you.)
Distance:  You have three options:

  • 4.0 miles in honour of turning 40
  • 8.25 miles in honour of the actual day
  • 40K if you dare.  (If you are crazy enough *coughToniacough*, do it whenever in August it works for your training, just let me know when you plan to do it.)

Not gonna lie…I really didn’t want to run.  But in her honour I “sucked it up Buttercup “and did the 4 mile race as part of my Sat 5 mile tempo:

4 mile time: 43:10.  Nothing fast but DONE.  Then I went out and walked 7km as part of golfing..

This all meant that when I woke up Sunday…there was no way I was in any shape to run 27km.  I felt anxious about running, burned out, tired, sore etc. So I didn’t….  I was also in a tournament that I wanted to do well in so that was my focus.

However because I am a guilty-puss..I did my long run this morning (still on vacation!)  Turned out to be a great morning to run: overcast and cool and really windy in some parts but whatever.  I ended up only doing 23km but since I ran Sat and walked ~15km b/w Sat and Sunday….the last 4km can suck it.

Post run I raced to get this to wash the GU/Gatorade taste out of my mouth:

coffee

I also tested these out on today’s run:

socks

They are a heavier sock but felt pretty good.  I can feel the start of some blisters so please..help a sister out with blister recommendations……

first!

that sounds like a busy weekend, or extenda-weekend with your vacation time!

as for blisters, i constantly get them despite body-glide and trying different socks and shoes, BUT, i've noticed i don't get any new blisters when wearing smartwool running socks. i wear them for all of my long runs, even in the summer.

nice job getting those runs in on vacation!

I hear moleskin is great for blisters...

23K is definitely enough...considering how much mileage you got in.

Love the socks :)

Hey PR partner! I agree with an earlier post, Smart Wool is great for prevention. So jealous you have a coach Satan and motivation go run on vacation. Send some of that my way!

Came over from MCM Mama's site. Great run!! I have yet to have blister issues but I wear microfiber socks so even in torrential downpours, I have been lucky.
