As awesome as our vacation for Ironman Arizona was, it left me pretty beat up. I got an outer ear infection that basically left me completely deaf in one ear for over a week. For someone who has never had an infection of any kind, it was brutal. I ended up having to go to the ER in the US (which was a very pleasant experience) and had to deal with the pain of my own doctor’s office here in Canada. It is now totally cleared up and I am a happy camper once again. NEVER will I take my senses for granted again.
Getting all healed up set back my transition into full training mode a bit but I kicked off full force last night by having my run test. Not going to lie…I was disappointed – I just could not breathe so I didn’t make it to the stage I wanted to. Nothing I can do now except go over the numbers with my coach and follow the plan she comes up with for this session.
Speaking of this session…my new run clinic started on Tuesday which is also my 3rd year Run-A-Versary. Over the last year, Running and I:
- set PB’s in the 16km, 10km and 15km distance
- ran 4 half marathons and 1 marathon…but no PBs in any of them…
- kept off the 25+ lbs I had been lugging around and lost a couple more for good measure
- gained 2 more ‘official’ coaches …yes, it takes this much help for me to be a ‘runner’. I am very happy to be working with these awesome people and promise to limit my basketcase /introverted self to a minimum…
So there were highs and lows this run year. Obviously I am hoping for more highs for this coming year and will be busting my butt to get there….

Ouch on the ear infection--does not sound fun. But glad our medical system treated you well.
I'd say you had a fantastic year! Congrats on reaching the 3-yr. mark.
Happy runnerversary! You had a great year. Glad your ear is feeling better--ouchie!
I hope the ear infection is gone
Congrats on the 3rd year Run-A-Versary.
Happy Anniversary! Although there have been some ups and downs, you certainly have accomplished some great things. Congrats!
I have only had one ear infection in my life and it was horrific. So glad you are feeling better.
Happy Run-a-versary and congrats on all of your achievements in the past year! Looking forward to seeing what you do this coming year
Been there on the ear infection that deafens you. I was in my 20s and so scared it was permanent! I hate ear stuff--it's the worst. I'm glad you're over it.
Great job this year and happy run-a-versary.
owie on the ear infection! glad you got that taken care of!

Great year for you!

I have never had an ear infection, but the BF had one last year. OUCH! Happy Runniversary!
Ugh, sorry about the ear infection...not fun AT ALL! Glad it's all cleared up now, though.
I hope you have a super fantastic year running and set many personal milestones!
ewww at the ear infection, hope you're feeling better!
Don't be discouraged from that first run back, sounds like you had a tough couple of weeks!
There's a good run waiting to be had.
Happy Run-A-Versary! And wow! You have had an amazing running season when it's added up! :) Keeping the lost weight off from the previous year and losing a few more is a huge success, too. :) Congratulations! Looking forward to following your next training session (and I hope the ear infection clears up soon - painful!).
Glad your ear infection is cleared up. Sounds awful. Happy Runneversary...great year. I'm sure you'll have an even better 2012!
