Still searching for the PB – Road2Hope Race Report

Still not quite there yet… Sunday’s Road2Hope half marathon was a race filled with some victories and disappointment.  I don’t dwell on the negative…I will analyze what went wrong but I can’t still an linger on why I didn’t get a PB.  Wallowing ain’t this chick’s style.
The day started off cold.  I knew it would be sunny and b/w 5-9 degrees so I was determined to not overdress.  The bonus of this race is they open the local high school and you can chill there before the race.  There were plenty of bathrooms/portapotties etc. and they have a ton of shuttles available.  Apparently there was a ton of traffic at the finish line where the shuttles came in from so there was a bit of a delay with the start but everything else went smoothly.
Awesome run friends hanging in the gym pre-race:

Awesome run group:  3 huge PBs in the lot..

Into the finish..hoping my legs won’t fall off…
 r2h finish
So the good parts of the race were:
  • I PB’ed at 10km…I even beat my Downtown Dash 10km time from this past July
  • I PB’ed at 15km….I even beat my Midsummer Night run from August
  • I PB’ed at 16km (10 mile)….I even beat my Boxing Day 10 miler time from last December.
Then I tanked.  The last 5km hurt…a lot.  My poor friend who was running with me had to pull ever trick in his sleeve out to get me to the finish.  My legs were concrete but I finished and bested my Scotia Half time to have a new “2nd” PB of 2:30:59.
Other good parts of the day include:

  • finally meeting IRL Marlene and Marie.  My shy, geeky self was in full force I am sure.
  • The volunteer and police services were amazing.
  • overall organization of the race was great - Werthers candy in the swag bag? Brilliant!
  • good food post race but if you served GOOD coffee, you'd make a mint.  I would have traded the hubs away for a cup of java...

I still hurt today but it’s that: “great, sore I worked my butt off kind of hurt” that I love and appreciate that my body can do.
And even not getting a PB will take away that accomplishment.

Congrats! And although you didn't get a PB...you ran well! Just motivation for next time right?! :)

Congrats on all those PBs along the way! Lots to celebrate here and a "2nd" PB is nothing to shake a stick at (or whatever that saying is). It was great to meet you! And kudos for not overdressing. I was HOT!

Sorry you didn't get your PB but glad you had a a lot of PB's along the way! That's something. Congratulations on completing another 1/2!

Congrats!!! Any race complete is a good race in my mind. There are so many people out there that would never dream of doing what we do :)

Huge congrats to you on your 2PB - welcome to the sore club - a good kind of pain because we earned it!

Great job!

And I must add that that in my mind, PB=peanut butter. I guess in the US most runners use PR?

It was funny to me b/c at 8 mos pregnant, my brain is super fuzzy and I misplaced 1/2 of a peanut butter sandwich awhile back. So when I read your post title, I thought, "Did she lose a sandwich too?".

yeah yeah... blame it on the hormones!

Nice job on the pre-finish PR's, that's great!! And you stuck in there and didn't give up when the bonk came...that shows a lot of grit, girl! Congrats!

I like that you're celebrating the PRs along the way! I really hate that lead leg feeling at the end of a hard race. You just want to stop SO BAD!

I hate when I am doing well and then the end of the race is just awful. Sorry that happened to you but good job on the first parts! And what fun meeting Marlene!

I like your shirt you wore! It's all jazzy! :)
Awesome job, you were running strong, and tanking happens sometimes, but, you're being an awesome person and not dwelling on it, good for you!
You'll get that that PB.

WEll done!

Remember, most races won't be your best or your worst, but somewhere in between. Second best is still pretty darn good!

It's all about the experience and sometimes a PB isn't part of it. But main thing a great time! Thanks for stopping by and trust me it's no easy and I've yet to try a road marathon...which I'll likely crash and burn at with my luck :) Happy Trails1

Seriously, congrats on even finishing! I have never ran over 7k so I am in awe of everyone who has :) that is a great time, and now you have extra motivation for next time!
And at least you didn't give yourself a black eye putting your arm warmers on, right?!

Mmm werthers candy. Congrats on the pb! Sorry to hear it didn't all go as well as hoped for, but you had a strong 10-mi. Maybe just need to continue working those long runs to destroy the last 5k!
