Yet Another Race Week…

This week I have been stalking the Weather Network like crazy, drinking water like a mofo and falling asleep thinking of kilometer splits.  (i.e. if I am at XX km in this time, then I have to average out this many minutes per km to finish in this time)

So it must mean that race week is here.

After the wee bit of a fiasco that was Scotia, I am looking for some redemption/validation this Sunday at the Road2Hope half marathon.  My goals are all the same but for this race….I need to chill a bit more.  I spent a lot of Scotia with my mind occupied on STUFF – I am running too fast, too slow, why is the pace bunny so far ahead of me, my hip hurts blah blah blah.

This time, the main goal it will be to truly enjoy the race.   It is a local one so I know I will have some ‘cheerers’ out on the course and a bunch of my run group is doing the race as well.  I am so thankful to have these awesome peeps in my life.

Other than the usual race week shenanigans, I have been really enjoying running this week:

  • Sat:  10km with Z3 thrown in
  • Sun: 8km with a couple of race pace km added in while running with my friend/coach
  • Tues:  EARLY morning run post Halloween…no zombies which is always a plus
  • Today:  EARLY morning run…like Tuesday I just ran.  No worrying about pace, time, walking etc.  And.it.was.fun.

If you are racing this weekend, have a good one.  If you are racing Road2Hope, say hi to me…I’ll be the one chillaxing.

Good luck Laura!
My favourite mantra when I'm trying to just chill during a run is "Don't think, just RUN"

It helps a lot. I wrote it on my hand during a race that I knew I would think too much and so every time I caught myself thinking "omg, there's a hill around the corner, can I do it?" or "ack, my calf hurts a little, is it going to cramp?" or "i don't feel great and i'm only 7 miles in...this must mean disaster is about to strike"...I just looked at my hand, smiled, and just ran.

It worked really well.

I hope you have a great day out there! I think it really helps to think out the splits in advance. And then when you hit them--it's the best! Good luck.

Lately those early morning runs with the pup in the trails - where I do only 1.5 - 2 miles max so don't really record them - have been the BEST runs ever!

Good luck this weekend. I like Kristen's don't think, just run mantra!!

Good luck on Sunday, hope you have a great race, and that the weather is co-operative. I'm sitting it out this year but will be thinking of you!

You know, having fun is actually a pretty hard race goal in my experience! I'm just like you, worry, too fast, too slow, why did that person pass me, etc. Hope that you're able to have fun in this race! I'm sure you will, smiles at the finish line!
