Four for Friday – the rambly version

1.  This morning was a very windy and mentally challenging easy 11km run.  I did 6km around the neighbourhood and then out to my usual out/back point.  It ended up being 11km as I headed down my usual path thinking I had 2 km out and 2 km back to do to make 10km.  But I forgot that I had to actually make it back home not from where I counted the 2km out start point.  Dork…I know…

2.  Last weekend we were at a family Christmas gathering and I had my first backlash with my vegetarian/vegan diet.  We were chatting and it came up that I wouldn’t be eating the meat lasagne that was being served….this led to a litany of questions about me and what I ate.  I actually had a relative who said: “Boy do I hate people like you.  I’m not inviting you to my house for dinner.”  WOW…I don’t judge what anyone eats, believes in etc. and yet I am the rotten one apparently…

3.  I handled the above situation better than I would have in the past by making a joke about it.  My sister however has suggested that for the next family gathering I show up with a “Meat is Murder'” sign and hand out pamphlets about how terrible they as ‘carnivores’ are.  We’ll see…

4.  Including today, 5 more work days until vacay…YES!  We have had a few gatherings already and are jammed on the 25-26th.  The 24th is reserved for the hubs and me.  We are spending it at the movies.  Weird maybe….relaxing ..you bet.

Do you get backlash for your views?

Are you a holiday movie go-er?

Hubs and I want to squeeze in a trip to the movies during the Christmas mayhem too! I want to see New Year's Eve.

Wow, harsh comment. Was that from someone in your family?? Yikes.

I usually make a comment to put the backlasher in their place. Their comment was not necessary, it didnt effect them nor does it concern them if you dont eat meat.

Somebody said that for real? Does this relative work at a meat packing plant? Bad day? Been poked by a Vegan? I am a carnivore but it's never bothered me as to what someones diet is.

I can't believe someone said that to you. I can understand though, if I bring a side dish to family functions and use the word healthy or vegetarian everyone things it's going to be gross. So I usually just let them try it first then decide if they like it. I wouldn't let that comment get to you though, it's just too bad they have to be like that.

Ah Laura that sucks...I am sorry you had to deal with this, I know how it feels...for the last 2 yrs I have been in this very strict diet and I have to bring my food everywhere and I get the questions and the comments every time..."aren't you skinny enough?" "are you annorexic?".."do you need attention that bad" My diet is because of health issues so can you imagine how much I love these stupid questions...I handle it OK I think but if the person pushes me it is not pretty!!!

Yes movies during the Holidays!
Always!!!

I was a vegetarian for a while and often got some slack from my meat-loving Mom--but it was gentle slack and she never pushed it that far. Sorry you had to put up with that!

It's not like you made a big deal out of not eating the meat lasagna. You could choose to eat something else, more salad, more bread. The person who said something just doesn't know what to cook/do when someone doesn't like what they've prepared.

that's super lame! i dislike people like that... i have food allergies + am vegetarian, so i know how you feel. it's just great when they say similar comments regarding my food allergies -- i mean i can't help that! inconsiderate.

#2 - That's HARD. I hate situations like that... it's why I tend to be anti-social sometimes. People can be so ridiculous when it comes to what goes into YOUR body. Like they should really be concerned?
Good for you to stick with your diet plans!
